The Ancient Rome in 3D

Just a few steps from the Colosseum is a small island of technology where visitors can re-live the age of Imperial Rome in a virtual journey taking them back in time two thousand years. 3DRewind Rome is the name of the museum in Via Capo d’Africa, which is unique in its kind, combining entertainment with serious science to create the amazing experience of travelling through the history of the Eternal City. There are faithful reconstructions of the underground passages that Commodus used to enter the Colosseum, complete with damp air, frescos and paintings in perfect style of the time, as well as interactive maps describing the whole archaeological area of the city as it was, compared with the buildings that remain today. There are everyday objects such as coins, tools, clothing, shoes and hair ornaments, all designed to re-create life as it was in AD 300.
Inscriptions in Latin with translations in eight languages and personnel dressed in clothing of the time are all part of the journey, which has been developed on the basis of studies carried out by some of the world’s leading universities. This is an entertaining and original way to get to know the city’s past.
